Do you ever get jealous of the fame, attention and the
sponsorship deals that Swiss No. 1 Martina Hingis gets?
That's one thing I don't like about being a top player.
Fame is really something that I don't want. I want
to live for the moments I enjoy in tennis and the way I
play. I don't like the fame and celebrity. In
Switzerland, I don't like it really. I cannot live
there freely like in other countries. Everybody
recognises me. If I go into town I always get
recognised and I don't like that.
You have a reputation of disliking training. Why
is that?
The truth is I don't like stupid training - doing the same
thing 100 times. Like running for half an hour when
you don't have to. I think it's stupid, annoying and
boring. I don't like it. I know at some times
during the year I have to run every day and really work
hard. I know that it's part of my job, but I prefer
to play on court than do running.
Which players do you least like playing?
I don't like playing either of the Williams sisters on
fast courts. With them it's difficult to get your
game going. On clay it's different. I don't
really care who I'm playing on clay.
What is your best moment ever?
The week I had in Charleston in April of this year when I
beat the world No.1 Jennifer Capriati in her own country
and then beat Serena Williams. Two great players in
a row. It was too exciting. It was an amazing
week. It is these moments you live for.
What is your worst moment ever?
When my cat Rudi died last November it was really sad.
I wasn't at home. He was old. He had to have
an operation but he didn't wake up afterwards.
What car do you drive?
A Mitsubishi Space Star.
Which player do you most admire?
There's not one player overall that I admire. You
can pick so many things from different players that are
amazing. But when I was a kid I had a poster of
Agassi in my room.
What irritates you most about your job?
I would like to be at home a little more. I love
travelling but sometimes after three or four weeks I get
tired. I have my own apartment in Bottmingen in
Switzerland. When I'm at home I never go out.
I like eating dinner on my balcony or in front of the
television.
Do you have a boyfriend?
Yes, I live with my boyfriend Rainer Hofman. He's a
computer specialist and has his own business. He's
34 years old.
Favourite music, films and book?
For films I like comedies and I love scary movies. I
particularly liked The Silence of the Lambs. In
music I like softcore techno, but I don't like Swiss
music. For books I read mostly thrillers.
