Schnyder
produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance with nine breaks of
serve in the first set against teenaged Serbian Ana
Ivanovic.
With Ivanovic's second break of serve, Schnyder slammed
her racquet to the indoor court surface to injury herself.
"It's pretty stupid and very unlucky how it happened," the
Swiss said.
"I was still able to play but I had a lot of pain. I had
some pain-killers during the match and at the end it was a
little better.
"There is nothing really severe and I'm going to get some
treatment and I need to take care of it. I think I'll be
able to play the final."
Schnyder now has a race to be fit. A decision will be
taken over whether she will play third seed Petrova, who
beat Czech Kveta Peschke 6-3 6-4, after her morning
warm-up on Sunday.
Schnyder chalked up a fourth win this season over
17-year-old Ivanovic with a 7-5 6-2 triumph that seals her
second final appearance in eight days.
Last week's Zurich Open final is now virtually assured of
joining Lindsay Davenport, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova,
Mary Pierce and Amelie Mauresmo as qualifiers for the
season-ending WTA Championships in Los Angeles from 8
November.
