Third-seeded Patty Schnyder saved a match point and went on to beat Silvija Talaja 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 Monday in the first round of the Northern Light Open.

Talaja served for the match at 5-3 in the third set, but her error allowed Schnyder to erase a match point. Schnyder won the last four games of the match to win in 1 hour, 54 minutes.
