Patty
Schnyder beat Lindsay Davenport 6-3 6-2
Q. Ready for a triple header tonight?
PATTY SCHNYDER: No mixed doubles here.
Q. Your
start against Lindsay, really like the key, you kind of
seized control right from the get-go. What was going on
with your game there? How were you able to seize control
as quickly as you did?
PATTY SCHNYDER: I was just ready. I mean I don't know.
I just saw the balls really early, and she hit some really
good backhands down the line and she had a good rhythm.
So I stayed with her and made her work, and at the end I
served really well, and her forehand was a little bit off.
Q. Patty,
you definitely showed a game out there that can compete
and win many tournaments, and you've been in the Top 10 in
your career and you've had some struggles. Do you feel
like now's the time that you can really break through?
PATTY SCHNYDER: No. I mean I'm playing better tennis
every year, and my tennis you cannot compare what I played
when I was in the Top 10. So I'm really happy the way I
play, and I mean the way I can win against the Top 10s. I
mean it's hard to believe that it sometimes it goes easy
like this, score wise, and so I'm really happy, and I just
want to continue. And my biggest goal is the Grand
Slams. So I did a great job in Australia, and yeah, for
me the dream is to win the French Open, and to have some
good wins before that on clay it helps, helps a lot.
Q. Do you
have maybe more confidence coming here than some other
places because you had such a good run here two years ago?
PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah. I love playing here. I think the
court suits me really good, the high bounce and the pretty
fast court, and I love the balls also. So yeah, it seems
like -- and the weather is dry. It's my tournament here.
And the people also, they love me and they remember me,
and so we are having fun like playing and watching, I
think.
Q. What
are some of your favorite things about the city of
Charleston besides the tennis?
PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah. I mean the city I was playing at
night all the time, so I can't tell you a lot about the
city actually. But I guess at the tournament here the
atmosphere is great, and there are some sweet streets in
the city which I remember from last year and some good
restaurants, so I hope by next year I can check it out a
little bit better. |
