Patty
Schnyder lost to Monica Seles
6-4 3-6 6-7 PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah. I mean I tried to go for the winner and I was like ready to close out and then my serve also, but yeah. I think sometimes you are really unlucky and nothing goes in and sometimes you're really lucky and today was not lucky. Q. Did you get nervous or tight at the end at all? PATTY SCHNYDER No. I mean I was just tired, but I was not especially nervous. But yeah, my legs were a little tired, my arm, too. And probably that's also the reason why I tried to go for the shots. Q. Were you aware what happened in the previous match, the Davenport situation with Spirlea? PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah. I saw it, but I didn't think about that during my match. Just Robin told me they were exactly the same in the tiebreaker third set, but I wasn't thinking about that. Q. Did you feel that a big chance slipped away? PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah. It was a really big chance to win the match, to be in the semis, but I think I have a lot of matches to go this year and I mean it's not easy to say now, but still it was a good match for me and I think that I can beat her next time. So it's not that bad. Q. It was only one break you were up 5-2 in the third set. Was there anything specific there that if you look back on that you feel you could have done differently, maybe to have gotten a quicker lead and gotten the third set? PATTY SCHNYDER: I think I lost those games against the wind, but I'm not quite sure. Same like in the third set, I won the games with the wind, and yeah, it was difficult to play against the wind because she takes the ball so early, and if you play not deep enough, you just run left and right and don't get anywhere. Q. The crowd was obviously for Monica. What sort of effect did that have on you? PATTY SCHNYDER: The crowd was perfect. I had some fans, too, that were screaming for me, but yeah, Monica, she's from here. She's a champion, and I knew that it was like that. Q. It didn't bother you? PATTY SCHNYDER: No. Q. Did you use it as a motivator almost for you that all these people were behind her in some points? PATTY SCHNYDER: No. I just tried to play my game and just not hearing too much what's going on. Q. Right now I'm sure the disappointment is very strong, but down the road do you think something good comes from this that you proved that you could compete at a very high level? PATTY SCHNYDER: Yeah, the first two or three hours or the whole evening now I will be really disappointed because I had, yeah, five match points, but I think now I'm looking forward to the next tournament. I know that I can play good tennis and I can play with the top players and even with a bit of luck I could beat them. So it's positive. |
